Melbourne alt-rock quintet Better Half have announced their highly anticipated debut EP ‘Maybe I Was Wrong’ to be released May 11 via Resist Records. To coincide with the announcement, the band have given listeners the first taste of the release with a music video for ‘Rest Your Head’.
Forming in 2015 as a side project of Thornhill guitarist, Matt Van Duppen (guitar) and Belle Haven guitarist, Chris Vernon (vocals), Better Half have been slowly making a name for themselves in the Melbourne alternative rock/emo scene off the back of their first two singles, ‘Reasons To Leave’ and ‘Mourn’.

After their full lineup was completed, the band went on to support the likes of Citizen, Turnover, Touché Amore, Being As An Ocean and more during 2015-2017. Better Half began writing and recording their long awaited debut 7" EP ‘Maybe I Was Wrong’ through most of 2017 which is finally set to be released via Resist Records on May 11. The EP was entirely self-produced by Van Duppen and Vernon, with Chris also engineering, mixing and mastering the release.

On the signing, Better Half guitarist Matt Van Duppen says “Working with Graham (Nixon) on this release has been a great experience. We believe we’ve been able to create a release that people will relate to and enjoy, and Resist have really helped us bring it to life.”

“The main influences for songwriting on the release were definitely bands like Citizen, Basement, Title Fight etc. I’ve grown up through all of high school listening to those kinds of bands and it’s always been a goal of mine to create a sound of our own while taking influence from that style of music.” says Van Duppen

Vocalist Chris Vernon commented on ‘Rest Your Head. "Lyrically, Rest Your Head was written at 3am whilst laying next to my girlfriend at the time, knowing that the relationship was about to end just like everything else does. I've always believed in saying it how it is and making lyrics that are straight to the point so that people can relate to it easily.”
